An amusing satirical poem concerning Union General Benjamin "Beast" Butler. My 5 stars are for the poem not the free kindle edition which, as usual, leaves the illustrations out of an illustrated work. A free project Guttenberg edition with illustrations was easy to find on the web. Some knowledge of Civil War political & military history is needed to understand the poem. The poem likens Butler to Shakespeare's Falstaff; calls him a pot house soldier and a drunkard; accuses him of war profiteering and generally calls his character to question. Further, it says the outward image reveals the inner man. Existing photographs of the unprepossessing Butler make the meaning of this gibe clear.Product details
